What is an email permutator?
An email permutator takes a person's first name, last name, and company domain and generates every plausible email format that company might use. Most companies follow one consistent pattern across all employees, so if you can identify that pattern, you can find anyone's email address.
The most common patterns are first name only, first name and last name separated by a dot or nothing, first initial and last name, and combinations thereof. This tool generates all of them at once so you can run verification against each one rather than guessing.
Why not just search LinkedIn or use a database?
LinkedIn does not show email addresses directly. Data enrichment databases are useful but have gaps, especially for smaller companies or contacts who have recently changed roles. Email permutation fills the gap: you know who you want to reach, you know the company domain, and you need the address format.
The permutator gives you the candidates. The verifier tells you which one is live.
How to use email permutations for outreach
Step 1: Generate the combinations
Enter the prospect's first name, last name, and company domain. The tool generates all standard format combinations instantly. No sign-up, no credits used.
Step 2: Verify which address is live
Copy all the generated addresses and run them through an email verifier. A verifier sends a test signal to each address without delivering an actual email and checks whether the mailbox exists. The one that returns a valid result is the correct address.
The email finder and verifier in toflow.ai checks addresses in bulk across 8+ data sources and returns a verified result before any outreach is sent.
Step 3: Add to your sequence
Once you have a verified address, the contact is ready for outreach. Adding them manually is fine for one-off lookups, but for lists at scale, using the enrichment agent to find and verify contacts automatically is faster and produces cleaner data.
When permutation helps and when it does not
Permutation works well when:
- You know the exact person you want to reach but cannot find their email in any database
- You are prospecting at a company where the email domain is known but formats vary
- You need to verify an address before adding it to a sequence to avoid bounces
- You are doing targeted outreach to a small list where manual lookup is feasible
It is less useful when:
- You are building a large list from scratch and need both contact discovery and email finding at scale
- The company uses role-based addresses that do not follow a personal name pattern
- The domain is a free email provider (Gmail, Outlook) where format prediction does not apply
For scale, the enrichment agent finds and verifies contacts across 8+ sources automatically, without generating and checking permutations manually.
